Venues & Check-ins
Understand check-ins, Buffer Zone, location permission, venue visibility, and the decline/pass model.
How check-in works
- Check-ins unlock venue-aware discovery for eligible places.
- A check-in is time-aware and may expire automatically.
- Venue availability can vary by city, place type, safety signals, and product rollout.
Location and Buffer Zone
- Location permission helps SameHive confirm that venue discovery is relevant.
- Buffer Zone is designed to avoid exposing precise real-time position.
- SameHive does not need to show your exact physical spot inside a venue to other users.
Visibility and decline
- People visible in a venue can change as check-ins expire, privacy settings change, or moderation rules apply.
- Decline/pass reduces repeated exposure and does not need to notify the other person.
- You may see the same person in another venue if product rules, privacy settings, and safety rules allow it.
FAQ
Can I browse without checking in?
Core discovery is venue-aware. Broader browsing may exist through Premium or Hive Roam, with privacy and safety controls still applied.
Will someone know I declined them?
Decline/pass actions are designed to reduce visibility without creating a public notification.
Why did someone disappear from a venue?
Their check-in may have expired, they may have changed privacy settings, you may have declined or blocked them, or a safety rule may apply.
What is Buffer Zone?
Buffer Zone helps reduce exposure of precise real-time location while still allowing venue-aware discovery to work.
Can other members see my exact location inside a venue?
SameHive is designed around venue context, not exposing your exact physical spot. Visibility can still depend on privacy settings and check-in state.
Who appears inside a venue?
Eligible members may appear based on check-in status, venue context, account standing, privacy settings, blocks, declines, and safety rules.
Can I check in for someone else?
No. Check-ins should reflect your own account and context. Using check-ins to mislead others or represent someone else can violate SameHive rules.
Why is a venue available in one city but not another?
Venue availability can vary by rollout stage, data quality, safety settings, local operations, and whether a place is eligible for SameHive discovery.
Can I see the same person at a different venue?
You may see someone again if context changes and product, privacy, block, decline, and safety rules allow it.
